Paris: Fountain of Creativity

With the events that unfolded in Paris over the weekend, I’d like to dedicate the post to that great city, and all the people within it, past and present.

For people who work in any creative field, Paris has always been a force to be reckoned with. And an inspiration of the highest order.

In fashion, it is the center of the world, followed by Milan, London, NY and Tokyo. Couture was created, defined and upheld by the Parisians.

In all visual arts, from painting to sculpture to architecture, Paris has been world capital, spawning generation after genre after genius.

In filmmaking, yours truly and millions of young artists were shaped by Godard, Truffaut, Rohmer.

As a young writer, I studied the work of Baudelaire, Verlaine, Apollinaire, Hugo, Camus, Sartre, so many more.

In music, I am listening as we speak to Satie, and remember growing up enjoying Ravel, Bizet, Debussy…

The list is endless, the contributions incalculable. And it continues unabated.

Even after the city, and the world, recovers from the current crisis, we will always find creative inspiration from the artists who hail from, or who achieved their genius, in Paris.

Our thoughts and prayers go to everyone in Paris, for their safety and for peace to return, so we can once again appreciate it for what it is: a fountain of creativity, a bastion of beauty.

Votre,

W.
